California Lawmakers Look at Internet Poker

KABC-TV is reporting that a group of California lawmakers are proposing legislation that would award licenses to offer real-money online poker to residents of the state.  The licenses would be awarded for a 10-year term, and only poker would be permitted initially but other casino-style games could follow after the first two years.  The potential revenue to the state could be as much as $1 billion over the next decade.  Any introduced bill will likely be contentious, as there are strong interests on both sides of the issue of expanding gambling in the state.
